Misdeals in a Poker Game

When there was a misdeal it will result to giving back all the cards to the dealer for another round or re-deal. After a substantial action has taken place that incident may not be called as a misdeal.

A substantial action is referred to as three players having any action done, this includes a fold, or as two players do a raise, call or bet before they were called for an error. A substantial action can be called upon only when the dealer is not dealing cards anymore.

The following are incidents that can lead to a misdeal:

a). The dealer has failed to shuffle and cut the cards before the actual dealing.

b). When the dealer has dealt a card to the wrong player.

c). At some point the dealer has failed to deal each player their proper card. A "proper card" is a card that was due to the player. This is in accordance with the order of the cards on the deck. If a player was not given his or her proper card the card can be moved to its rightful owner if there is no damage done, this can be accepted. However, if the player has already looked at the card that was not due to him or her, this can lead to a misdeal.

d). A misdeal in a game with one or more blinds. When an absent player is dealt and using a blind this is a misdeal.

e). If the player has anted this can lead to misdeal as long as the cards were not yet dealt for beginning hand. If an error has not yet been revealed and one or more players have been already dealt by the dealer with all their cards the player can get his ante back and the game continues.

f). A misdeal can be caused by dealing too few cards to players but not until the player is due to have his or her card from the top of the deck.

g). A misdeal can also be caused by dealing too many cards to the player not until the last card was said to be a burn card and this card can be given back to the deck of cards.

h). The exposure of the first card at form of poker to one of the blinds that is to the left of the button before anyone has declared it.

i). An exposure of one or more cards can cause a misdeal.

j). A misdeal can be caused by the presence of more than one improperly faced card.
